Membership Overview

Becoming a SAMA member at any level is a confirmation of an individual’s or organization’s commitment to uphold and conform to the SAMA Code of Ethics, and the desire to create a collegial environment where people can be inspired, can network and inspire and deepen each other’s work.

You can apply for membership by choosing the Apply for Membership link under the Join tab above.

Or click here.

Please note that being a SAMA Professional Membership is not to be equated with professional credentialing. SAMA is not a certifying or credentialing organization.

Member Responsibilities

A SAMA member up holds the SAMA Code of Ethics

A member who has a grievance with another SAMA member may bring the concern to the SAMA Ethics Committee as described in section 9 of the Ethics Code. The Ethics Committee will only review grievances between SAMA Members.

Grievances between SAMA members and outside organizations or persons cannot be reviewed by the SAMA Ethics Committee.

Join SAMA as a Professional, Allied, Student, or Supporting Member.

Options for joining SAMA have been crafted to honor the diversity of our respective fields and the growing interest and support of our various professional competencies.

  • Professional Membership is offered to individuals and organizations incorporating intentional sound and music in their primary work activities.
  • Allied Membership is offered to individuals and organizations not primarily focused on sound and music and interested in these fields.
  • Student Membership is offered to individuals studying to become professionals in the field.
  • Supporting Membership is available to anyone interested in our association.

Professional Members

You may become a professional member as an individual, an organization, or as a product producer if your primary work directly uses intentional sound and music.

A formal application is required to confirm your professional membership status.

SAMA professional members have access to special events and conversations that are reserved for the professional category. In addition, a professional member of SAMA can experience the personal satisfaction of knowing that through their involvement and their vote, they can help shape the future of the Sound and Music Alliance in a vital and engaging way.

Three Categories of Professional Membership:

  • Professional Individual
  • Professional Organization
  • Schools

Allied Members

If you are a professional working in a related field and interested in intentional music or sound practices, come bring your expertise and gain new perspectives.

Two Categories of Allied Membership:

  • Allied Individual
  • Allied Organization

Student Members

Any individual involved in an active study, oral or written, formal or informal may apply for a Student Membership.

SAMA Supporting Members

SAMA offers the opportunity for everyone to join as a SAMA Supporting Member. Under this category, you will learn about the new innovations in intentional sound and music. SAMA Supporting members receive advance notice of news, announcements and educational/outreach events. SAMA Supporting members do not receive membership benefits or a listing in the membership directory.

Additional SAMA categories

SAMA offers two additional membership categories that are bestowed to distinguished professionals in the field. These are:

  • Emeritus – These individuals are chosen based upon their distinguished service to SAMA.
  • SAMA Luminaries – This lifetime distinction and membership is extended by the SAMA Board of Directors to publicly recognize the sustained services and commitments of honored individuals.

Charter Campaign Contributors receive discounted or free membership (must meet membership qualifications) as a contributor benefit. Support the SAMA Charter Campaign now and save on your membership.
